Preparing for Purposeful Living at BYU
As a FlexGE student, developing habits of curiosity, improvement, and meaningful service prepares you for a purposeful life and strengthens your application for full-time admission to BYU. A visible habit of service shows you're committed to becoming a well-rounded disciple-scholar and ready to contribute to the global BYU community.
Engage in Regular Volunteer Work
Volunteering (we recommend 1–2 hours per week) is key to improving your chances for BYU admission. It also builds character, develops real-world skills, helps you explore career interests, and shows your commitment to service. You can find meaningful opportunities through BYU Y-Serve or the JustServe app.
Participate in Student Organizations
Getting involved in student clubs and academic associations will give you a way to develop a love of learning, explore career paths, and build connections with peers and mentors. These experiences will help you grow academically and personally—making you a more well-rounded candidate for admission to BYU.
Join the FlexGE Student Council
Joining the FlexGE student council will boost your leadership skills and connect you with other students in the program. You'll have opportunities to plan events, represent student voices, and make a positive impact on the FlexGE experience—all while enhancing your resume and preparing to be a strong candidate for admission to BYU.
